Scott Bourne’s blog (Photofocus) is always stating that if the photo has a story, you have most of the battle won. If the image has no story, there’s not much to hold the audience’s interest or eventually, yours.
The reason I liked the idea of this image is the story. There are a couple of stories that hit me right off. The first was about the age and wear on this old truck and the apparent heavy use and lack of concern for its appearance, and also that it was left in a busy parking lot with the key in the ignition and the windows down. I guess the owner had no fear of anyone stealing this dilapidated old truck. And then, second, I wonder about the story of the owner.
Two of the many articles relating to story on Scott’s blog are here. Three tips for those bored with their photography. and here Do Your Photos have Clarity? And I’m not talking sharpness.

I like this shot Judy. It has that really old feel to it and definitely this shot tells a story. I am surprised this still works…
Yeah, it’s a pretty old truck. The seat was really broken down and I wonder how it still runs.
the red and blacks really drew me to this shot, you’ve really captured the beaten up quality of this truck
